Bailey Bear Happenings - April 2nd Edition

Week of April 5 - 9, 2021

Principal's Update

On-Campus learning

As we enter the last 9 weeks of the school year, we want to re-extend our "on-campus learning invitation" to our remote students. All of our teachers are back on campus and many of them have been vaccinated, while others are in the vaccination process. All of our on campus students have been great about observing the Covid 19 safety protocols including maintaining social distancing whenever possible. Since Spring Break we've welcomed several dozen Remote Learning students back to on-campus learning.

We stand ready to welcome back more students. Teachers are reporting that some students who have been struggling with remote learning have been significantly more successful by returning to on-campus learning. Parents, please keep in mind that we will do our best to maintain as much social distancing as possible as more students return. Six feet is still our goal in every classroom but remember, the CDC has revised those guidelines now to three feet. In any case, we hope more students will return to on-campus learning.

Covid 19 Screening App

If you are a remote learner and are planning to return to on-campus learning, please download the AISD Covid 19 screening App. It is available on the AISD website. Before coming on campus for school, or for any afterschool meeting, practice, or event, you must show that you have completed the questions on the app by showing your "Green Screen" to the campus screener. You must do this every time you come on campus. If you don't have a phone for the app, we can ask you the screening questions in person.

Personal computers vs AISD Chromebooks

Parents please be aware that we cannot repair personally owned laptops if they stop working on campus. We also cannot accept them for repair by our Tech center. AISD is only repairing those Chromebooks that are issued by AISD. It is critical that your student understands that if their personally owned computer stops working on campus they cannot bring it to the office - we can't accept it. We encourage our families who do not yet have an AISD issued Chromebook to begin the process of getting one by contacting our Asst. Principal, Ms. Andrews. Also, when a child turns in a non-working Chromebook, they will be issued a replacement Chromebook, but it will not be a new one. It will be a previously repaired Chromebook. As we turn in broken Chromebooks we get the same number of refurbished Chromebooks in return within a couple of days, so we always have working Chromebooks to issue to students who need a replacement. Our replacement supply is limited to those students whose AISD Chromebooks are not working, we do not have extras to loan to students who have forgotten their laptops.

Re-fillable water bottles

Please be sure your student is bringing a reusable water bottle to campus. Our safety precautions dictate that we cannot open our drinking fountains yet. However, we do have one touchless water bottle refilling station, and we will be installing two more soon.

STAAR Test Reminder

The 7th Grade STAAR Writing Test will be given on Tuesday, April 6th.

PALS Drive to Benefit Austin Animal Center

The Bailey PALS are having a drive for the Austin Animal Center from March 29th to April 9th. The Austin Animal Center is an organization that helps animals that were lost or given up. They are also a no kill shelter which means they do not kill any animals and so they have lots of animals needing adoption. Since they are overcrowded they need as many donations as possible. They would like to get blankets for the animals to keep them warm and have a comfortable place to sleep. The shelter is also accepting toys, treats, canned or dry food, gently used cages, fences, dog houses, newspaper, and leashes/collars, but the most desired donations are blankets/bedding. If you would like to donate, drop off the supplies at the front office between March 29th and April 9th. Thank you for your support.
