PALS - Canned Food Drive

Hey Bears! This is a reminder from the PALS that we are doing a Canned Food Drive from November 3rd - November 17th. You may donate by buying canned good and putting them in the box at the bus loop or the car loop doors. The B-Day Advisory class that donates the most cans will get a prize. So make sure to donate as much as you can! Thank you!

Asthma Information

Asthma is a condition in which a person's airways become inflamed, narrow and swell, and produce extra mucus, which makes it difficult to breathe.

Asthma can be minor or it can interfere with daily activities. In some cases, it may lead to a life-threatening attack.

Asthma may cause difficulty breathing, chest pain, cough, and wheezing. The symptoms may sometimes flare-up.

Asthma can usually be managed with rescue inhalers to treat symptoms and controller inhalers that prevent symptoms. Severe cases may require longer-acting inhalers that keep the airways open, as well as oral steroids.

Asthma attacks can be triggered by strong odors such as perfumes, body sprays or cologne. Please remind your student NOT to wear any perfumes, body sprays or cologne to school as this can severely affect classmates or staff that have Asthma and can cause a severe reaction.

Let's Talk - Beginning The Mental Health Conversation with your Teen/Pre-Teen - November 30th

Opportunity for Parents—National Alliance on Mental Illness

Bailey Middle School is partnering with NAMI of Central Texas to host Let’s Talk – Beginning the Mental Health Conversation with Your Teen/Pre-teen – on November 30, 2021 at 6:00. Please use this form to RSVP (must be logged into Gmail account)—if you have trouble completing the form, please contact Anna Duke (anna.duke@austinisd.org).

What parents will learn:

  • How to talk to your teen about mental health
  • The difference between bad behavior and symptoms of mental illness
  • Early warning signs of a teen in crisis

More than 40% of teens are not receiving the care and treatment they need–often because they are too embarrassed to talk about mental health or don’t know how to ask for help. Parents don't know how to bring up this difficult subject with their children either. This one-hour presentation empowers parents to talk to their teens about mental health by dispelling mental health myths and providing useful resources and healthy language to use.

Also, be sure to visit these awesome community resources--NAMI, Austin Child Guidance Center, Christi Center (grief support for children, teens, and adults) for upcoming classes and workshops and additional resources for parents.
