Bailey Bears Happenings - January 16th Editin

January 16th Edition

Showcase Information for Current 6th and 7th Graders

Dear Bailey 6th and 7th Grade Families,

It’s that time of year when students fill out their course selection “Choice Sheets” for next year. Usually we do a “Choice Sheet Night” event in-person, however, due to the rise in Covid-19 cases throughout Austin, and the change to Stage 5 in Austin-Travis County’s Risk-based guidelines, we have made the decision to hold our Choice Sheet Night as a REMOTE event, (via ZOOM call) for everyone’s safety.

Remember, the Choice Sheets allow students to submit their individual prioritized list of courses (electives) that they wish to take next year. The students are still required to take 4 core classes (English/Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies) and they will also take 4 “elective” classes. Next week, your students, (with your help), will fill out their Choice Sheet with their elective choices listed in order of preference (#1 being their top choice, all the way through their 20th choice.) This will allow the Master Scheduling computer program to have a long list of possible choices to help produce the best possible schedule for your child. Our counselors will be meeting with all 6th and 7th graders through their science classes to distribute and explain the Choice Sheets.

We are inviting you to attend our Choice Sheet Night (via ZOOM call) scheduled for:

Tuesday, Jan. 18th

Current 6th Graders moving to 7th 7:00PM – 7:45PM

Current 7th Graders moving to 8th 7:45PM – 8:30PM

We will explain how the Choice Sheets work and we will leave some time for Q&A near the end of the call. Some of you may be familiar with this process already. There is not much that is new or different this year. You can go to either of the links below to find the ZOOM links for your grade level Zoom call.

You can also visit the website with your child prior to the Zoom call to explore teacher videos about their classes. This will give you a chance to view short videos directly from the teachers about some of the electives they teach. We encourage you to look through the various videos and get a better idea of the classes your student might be most interested in. We hope you can join us!
