Principal's Note

In light of the recent Boil Water Notice from the City of Austin, the following message (in italics) is from AISD:

Remember to bring bottled water to school Monday

We’re asking Austin ISD students and staff to bring bottles of cooled, boiled water to school Monday as the city is under a boil water notice.

Why it matters: We’re looking to make sure students and staff are well hydrated and safe while the city is under a boil water notice.

  • School will start as scheduled on Monday.

  • We’re temporarily removing access to water fountains and bottle refill stations. 

  • We're delivering bottled water to campuses today in case students/staff forget or run out of water.

Here’s how we will serve lunch safely: There will be a modified menu that will use less water in the cooking process.

  • Kitchens are boiling large quantities of water using industrial equipment.

  • Dishes are being sanitized with dishwashers that reach a high internal temperature and can sanitize the dishes. 

This isn’t a plumbing problem.

  • It’s still safe to wash your hands using soap and tap water.

  • The toilets still flush.

We’re all going to be very safe as long as we use bottled or boiled water.

Driving the news: The city of Austin issued its water boil notice Saturday evening because of a malfunction at the Ullrich Water Treatment Plant.

  • Under such a notice, you should boil water for at least 2 minutes then let it cool before drinking. 

  • Residents are also asked to conserve water.

Substitutes

Calling all parents! AISD has revised its qualifications and its compensation for substitute teachers. We encourage our parents to look for information on AISD's website regarding becoming and AISD Substitute teacher. Application information is on the website and the change in compensation is worth a second look. Remember - you get to pick the jobs you take so you can work at only one school, or a small cluster of schools in the area. It's up to you.

8th Grade NAEP Testing

This is a reminder that some 8th graders will be participating in NAEP Testing this Tuesday, Feb. 8th.

"The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) is the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what America's students know and can do in various subject areas. The results provide educators, policymakers, elected officials, and parents across the country with invaluable information regarding how our children are doing compared to other children in participating large urban districts, other states, and the nation."

Bailey has participated in NAEP testing for years. Our participation provides important data regarding how our students perform on the same test compared to students in urban areas across the nation.

Bailey's Teacher of the Year - Lara Brown

We are so excited to announce that Lara Brown is Bailey's Teacher of the Year for 2021-2022! She has been teaching science for 10 years and 9 of those have been at Bailey. She holds her 8th graders to high expectations while building relationships that encourage them to grow as learners and people. Ms. Brown is a leader in the athletic department coaching sports like volleyball, soccer, and many more. Her leadership amongst staff has helped Bailey teachers stay strong through the hardships the pandemic has brought. We are so proud of Ms. Brown and extend a giant congratulations to her!

Bailey PTA - Spirit Night - February 9th

Bailey PTA is excited to announce our first Spirit Night of the school year! We've partnered with Southside Flying Pizza who has generously promised a 20% donation back to PTA on any Bailey Spirit Night orders placed between 5 pm-10 pm on Wednesday, Feb 9th. Mark your calendars for a Pizza Night on the 9th and help support our PTA and all the wonderful things they do for our teachers, students and administration though out the year!

  • The event is Wed. Feb 9th; 5-10pm 

  • South Menchaca Location Only 

  • Must present the flyer at the register, either a hard or digital copy 

  • If ordering delivery mention Bailey Spirit Night to the driver so they can mark the receipt

Student Code of Conduct Survey

The Student Support Service department is collecting feedback on the current AISD Student Code of Conduct with the goal of improving the documentation for the 2022-2023 school year. Feedback from parents/caregivers, staff, students, and community members is important in guiding these changes to make the document easier to communicate, read, and understand. This anonymous survey is available in English and in Spanish and will be close to stakeholders on February 12, 2022.
