Bailey Bear Happenings - August 26th Edition

August 26th Edition

Note from the Principal

Covid is still with us...

So far this school year, 18 positive cases of Covid have been reported at Bailey, in both students and teachers. We are taking this opportunity to remind everyone to report cases to the school as soon as you receive a positive test result. Student (and teachers/staff) must quarantine for 5 days (the count begins the day after your positive test result date). After the five days of quarantine, if symptoms have improved significantly, and fever is no longer present, a student may return to school, but is required to wear a mask for the next five days - though Day 10.

Notifying the school is important so we can watch for any trends at the campus level. With contact tracing no longer required (by the CDC or by AISD) it is difficult to determine whether infection is spreading from on-campus contact or community contact. My guess is both are true. Therefore, we encourage you to speak with your children about the following precautions that may help to decrease the chances if infection:

  • Do not share food or drinks with anyone
  • Keep your distance whenever possible
  • Respect other people's personal space
  • Regularly wash hands for at least 20 seconds, using soap
  • Masks are still approved and can be used at any time

Covid protocol update for Positive cases...

  • Notify the school as soon as a positive result is confirmed
  • Required:  5 calendar days of quarantine (the day of positive test result = Day Zero, the Day AFTER positive test result = Day One of quarantine)
  • Required:  After 5 days of quarantine, if symptoms have improved significantly and fever is no longer present, you may return to school but must wear a mask for the next five days (the count includes weekend days)

Our custodians will be disinfecting high traffic areas of the building tonight, and targeted classrooms. As always, keep an eye on your children and have them tested if they are showing any signs of Covid related symptoms. Masks are not required at this time, but they are allowed for anyone wanting to use one.

Names on personal property

Every year we take bags of "lost and found" items to the Goodwill because we cannot identify who any of it belongs to. As parents, I know we all work too hard to "donate" valuable items because our child lost track of it at school. But often,if it has a name on it, we can find the owner and return it. So, I am suggesting that every family take a few minutes this weekend to label those things your child might accidentally lose track of at school. Grab a Sharpie and put their name on the following:

  • Cell phones & Air Pods
  • Water bottles
  • Lunch bags/boxes
  • Backpacks
  • Winter jackets
  • Hoodies
  • Windbreakers/sweat suit tops

Chromebook chargers

Teachers are asking us to remind families that students should charge their Chromebooks every night. The batteries are designed to last the entire school day on a full charge. If they forget to charge it overnight, please make sure they bring their charger with them to school.

Campus Advisory Council volunteers

We're still looking for volunteers to join our Campus Advisory Council (CAC). Join us for monthly meetings to discuss important topics and provide advice to the principal on issues including the school budget, staffing, special events, STAAR accountability, etc. It's a great way to get involved with your child's school and learn more about how schools run and the challenges we face every day in AISD. We need and value parent input! Contact Kathleen Legrand in our main office for more information. (512) 414-4990.

2022-2023 Bus Information

AISD recommends families whose students are eligible for General Education transportation to check their bus information by checking the district’s “Bus Stop Finder'' (you may need to open the link in a new window). Families whose students have special needs will receive their information in person from their bus teams. Please keep in mind routes and stops may change periodically.

AISD’s transportation team offers families the “WheresTheBus” app, which provides timely information about the location of their student’s assigned bus only, including when it will arrive at their stop. Please promote the app to your school communities.

The free app is available on any device with internet access (smartphone, tablet, personal computer, iPad)—and takes less than five minutes to install. Instructions are available at https://www.austinisd.org/transportation.
