Bailey Bear Happenings - November 7th Edition

November 7th Edition

Principal's Note

Bear Day is Back!

We will once again hold our traditional Bear Day (carnival) Event here at Bailey on Friday, Nov. 18th, the day before our Thanksgiving break begins. Students will have the late afternoon to enjoy different games and fun activities all sponsored by the teachers and staff, with generous help from our PTA. All funds raised will be distributed among all the teacher groups sponsoring the different games, booths, and activities. Tickets are $0.50 each, and the games and activities are priced anywhere from 1 to 4 tickets (most are in the 1-2 ticket range.) There are also Free booths available where no tickets are required.

Tickets can be purchased using the School Cash Online system beginning today, Monday, Nov. 7th thru Wednesday, Nov.16th. Students can purchase tickets (with cash or check) in the morning before school beginning Monday, Nov. 14th thru Friday, Nov. 18th. Tickets will be sold in increments of $5.00.

Election Day

Don't forget to get out and vote. The AISD propositions on the ballot will impact all school in terms of enhanced security and technology upgrades for students and teachers. Bailey will also benefit from much needed upgrades to our aging A/C systems. In significant portions of the building the A/C units are the original equipment from when the building was built. Those systems are nearly 30 years old and are at the end of their functional life. Upgrades are definitely needed.

Teaching Assistant Vacancies

Bailey Middle School has open positions for Teaching Assistants (TAs) in our classrooms. TAs primarily help our students who receive special education services, but in fact, they are assisting any student who needs help. TAs work that same calendar that teachers work, and they are off on the same days and holiday breaks as the teachers. The great thing about being a TA is your schedule will mirror your child's school schedule on most days. Pay is competitive entry level pay. The TA position is a great way to get started in education, and is a solid 40 hr/wk job with summers off, as well as time off at Thanksgiving, the Winter Holidays, and at Spring Break! What could be better? If you have any questions, give the main office a call and ask for Mr. Rocha.

Calling All Veterans!

This Friday, November 11th, Bailey will host its annual "Veteran's Day Celebration" in the large gym. Our Band, Orchestra and Choir will all perform patriotic songs in honor of our veterans. If you or a family member is a veteran, we would be honored if you would join us as one of our special guests. Family members are also welcome. Come join us for a rousing celebration of our veterans! The celebration begins at approx. 3:00PM and will end at 3:50PM. We will begin seating guests at 2:45PM.

Coats for Kids

November 4 through December 4 the PALS will be collecting coats for Austin’s Junior League and Jack Brown Cleaners. These new and gently used coats will go to children whose families cannot afford them. The advisory class that has brought the most coats by December 4 will receive a popcorn party; there will be a separate competition per grade level. PALS will have boxes by the office to drop off coats, PALS in the morning in a designated area that students can give coats to, and students can always give them to their advisory teacher. Please inform students they need to put something on the coats that say the name of their advisory teacher so PALS can keep track of which classes have donated the most coats to win the competition. PALS will be by advisory classes throughout the week to pick up coats.
