Bailey Bear Happenings - November 18th Edition

November 18th Edition

7th/8th Grade Parents - High School Credit Class Information

Dear Bailey Bear Families,

Your child is a middle schooler enrolled in a high school course. There is some important information and deadlines you should know about.

First of all, tutoring and academic support are available for students. Contact your child's teacher directly to learn more about these options. (Teacher tutoring times and Twilight.)

Also, please be aware that the final grade your child earns at the end of the semester will be on your child's high school transcript and could affect class rank.

If your child is failing, there is an Opt Out option where you child can "drop" the high school level course by the deadline indicated below and change the course status to a middle school level course. In doing this change by the deadline, the grade in the course will not affect your child's high school transcript, GPA, or class rank.

Book Fair

Dear Parents and Families:

Get Ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way (YAY!).

Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them to become Bolder, Prouder, and Stronger Readers. AND—as always—every book they buy earns rewards for our school.

Here’s what you need to know about the Fair, which will take place from December 1-9 during the school day at the Bailey Middle School Library:

  • This year, say goodbye to cash and hello to eWallet—your child’s digital payment account. Before the Fair, set up eWallet for worry-free, cash-free purchases. Anyone can contribute! Share each child’s eWallet so friends and family can add funds and give your kids more books to enjoy.
  • If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Online Book Fair. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Your online orders will also benefit our school.
  • Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping: https://www.scholastic.com/bf/baileymiddleschool

The countdown to more Bookjoy is on!

Catch you at the Fair!

Girls Soccer Tryout Information

All 7th and 8th grade ladies: Do you want to play soccer for Bailey? Tryouts will be December 13-15, starting right after school until 5:30pm. You need a current physical on file with Bailey dated after April 15, 2022 before you will be allowed to participate. Please see Coach Brown or Coach Fuhrman to sign up for tryouts. PALS - Coat Drive Information

November 4 through December 4 the PALS will be collecting coats for Austin’s Junior League and Jack Brown Cleaners. These new and gently used coats will go to children whose families cannot afford them. The advisory class that has brought the most coats by December 4 will receive a popcorn party; there will be a separate competition per grade level. PALS will have boxes by the office to drop off coats, PALS in the morning in a designated area that students can give coats to, and students can always give them to their advisory teacher. Please inform students they need to put something on the coats that say the name of their advisory teacher so PALS can keep track of which classes have donated the most coats to win the competition. PALS will be by advisory classes throughout the week to pick up coats.

AISD Events/ Information

With many Austin ISD students living in food-insecure households, access to healthy food may be challenging when the district is closed. Families can use the community resources below to find free meals in their area while Austin ISD offices and schools are closed for the fall break November 21-25:

El acceso a los alimentos puede resultar difícil para muchas familias cuando el distrito cierra.
