Bailey Bear Happenings - February 6th Edition

February 6th Edition

Principal's Note

Bailey Families,

Welcome back after our icy event last week. Boy that sure turned into something most of us weren't expecting. But, once again, we have come through it and school is back in session. I'm relatively certain that most of you were happy to drop your students off today or to get them on the bus. I understand. We are happy to have them back. Here are a few notes regarding cold weather over the next few weeks.

Opening doors early on very cold days

Please try to avoid dropping students off at school too early in the morning on very cold days. We will try to open the building earlier than our regular time (7:55AM), but we need to have staff on hand to supervise students while inside. We have to schedule that ahead of time. On very cold mornings (forecast below 40 degrees) we will have staff in place to open our doors at 7:30AM. However, here are our recommendations for very cold mornings...

  1.  Do not drop your child outside the school anytime before 7:30 AM (that's a full 50 minutes before school starts. Doors will be locked and students will be stuck outside.
  2. Please check the option of your child riding the school bus, if eligible. This will get them to school on time without being stuck outside for too long.
  3. Check with neighbors who might be able to give your child a ride a little later so your child doesn't have to be dropped off too early.
  4.  Make sure your child is dressed for cold weather... Long pants, long sleeved shirts, hoodies, & jackets. Do not send them in shorts and tee shirts, please! If you are in need of a winter jacket, please contact your child's counselor for information.

If we follow these guidelines, we can keep your children safe from the cold weather.

And a Shout Out to our Bailey Dads in the neighborhood...

With all the ice storm damage in the neighborhood I was so impressed to find that many of our Bailey dads (and some moms!) got out there with chainsaws and trailers and went around the neighborhood to help the elderly and infirmed with clearing the storm debris from thier yards. What a great group of men and women! Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, for doing the right thing and providing a great example for your children. Kudos to all!!!!
