March 3rd Edition
Principal's Note
Bailey Parents and Guardians,
Last fall, the Bailey PTA hosted an important evening event regarding the dangers of the narcotic Fentanyl. The presentation was given by Anthony Hipolito, of the Hays County Sherrif's Office. Mr. Hipolito does these presentations to raise awareness of the extreme damger of this drug. The presentation was striking and very informative. We have arranged for Mr. Hipolito to come to Bailey next week to make the same presentation to our students during two different assemblies.
I am also inviting parents to join us in the gym for either of the assemblies.
The assemblies are schedule for the following dates and times and should last about 40 - 45 minutes.
Monday, March 6th
8th grade 7th grade
11:15 AM - 12:08PM 12:12PM - 1:10PM
Tuesday, March 7th
6th grade
12:12PM - 1:10PM
This narcotic is responsible for tens of thousands of overdose deaths across the country in just the last 3-4 years. In Texas in 2020, 883 people died of Fentanyl overdoses. In 2021 that number jumped to 1672 overdose fatalities - an 89% increase. Hays County has experienced a marked increase in overdose cases among students in the last several months. Since Hays County borders our own attendance zone we wanted to be sure our students had the opportunity to learn about the dangers of Fentanyl.
We hope you can join us.

Pride Week Information
PRIDE Y’ALL
Austin ISD celebrates Pride Week March 20 – 24. This year we will have a western theme. It’s a time to be supportive and kind to one another and be respectful of the differences of others and to embrace the similarities we share.
We want to ensure our fellow students that whatever their beliefs are, they have allies at school. Everyone is a part of making our school a safe and enjoyable place. It may take us one day at a time to build relationships with others and to be more understanding of one another, but it can be done. Have PRIDE Y’ALL in doing the right thing at Bailey Middle School.
Monday - 3/20 – SEL lesson in advisory.
Tuesday - 3/21 – Hat day. A western hat would be great, but any hat will do. Just put on your thinking cap and find kind words to share with others or do a kind act for someone.
Wednesday - 3/22 – Bright shirt day. Wear a bright shirt and brighten up someone else’s day with kindness. There will also be a poster to sign outside of the cafeteria during lunches for everyone to write something positive for others to read. If you sign the banner, you get a small gift for your support.
Thursday - 3/23 – Boot day. Western boots would be great, but any kind of boot will do. Kick up your heels and boot out negative rumors and comments about others. Always avoid saying negative and hurtful comments to others and encourage others to do the same.
Friday - 3/24 – Band together day. Wear an entire western type outfit. Western hat, western or bright shirt, jeans, western boots. You are also allowed to wear a bandana with your outfit, but it can ONLY be worn around your neck.
Each day you participate in the dress up activities or perform a kind act, your name will be put into a drawing for a prize. People are not required to dress up, but everyone is encouraged to be kind.
Let’s make this week a fun and an enjoyable time for everyone.

March 20 through April 14 the PALS will be collecting pet supplies for Austin Humane Society. These new and gently pet toys, food, cleaning, and medical supplies will go to rescued pets waiting to be adopted. PALS will have boxes by the office to drop off supplies, PALS in the morning in a designated area that students can give supplies to, and students can always give them to their advisory teacher. There will be no competition or reward for the class that has donated the most this time. PALS will be by advisory classes throughout the week to pick up the supplies.
