Bailey Bear Happenings - March 30th Edition

Principal Update

Important Family Survey

You should have received an email recently regarding a school survey from Panorama. The survey is designed to collect important information from families about Austin ISD. All AISD families are asked to complete and submit the survey as soon as possible. Please see the attached instructions for finding and submitting the survey, and thank you in advance, for your participation.

Computer Shortage

Please remind your child to be careful with their Chromebook. We are seeing an increase in damaged Chromebooks due to carelessness and we do not have replacement Chromebooks available. We do have a handful of daily loaner computers for testing, but they are claimed quickly each day. Just remind them that without a Chromebook everything goes back to the old school way and that is so much slower. Always come with a fully charged Chromebook and label your charger so we know its yours.

3 Day Weekend

We hope everyone gets to enjoy this three-day weekend. Tomorrow is a day off as we celebrate Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta Day. Remember that next Friday, April 7th, is also a student and staff holiday.

John Rocha, Principal

You may complete the survey online until April 14, 2023 using a computer, tablet, or smartphone by visiting the website surveys.panoramaed.com/austinisd/family

Esta encuesta puede completarse en línea entre hasta entonces 14 de abril de 2023 desde cualquier computadora, tableta o teléfono inteligente con acceso a internet y visitando el sitio web surveys.panoramaed.com/austinisd/family

7th/8th Grade Student information on opting out of High School Credit classes

Dear Bailey Bear Families,

If your student is enrolled in a high school credit course, there is some important information and deadlines you should know about.

Teacher tutoring and academic support are available for all students. Contact your child’s teacher directly to learn more about their tutoring times and Twilight. Please be aware, the final grade your student earns at the end of the semester will appear on their high school transcript and could affect class rank.

If the student is failing, there is an option to Opt-Out and “drop” the high school level course by the deadline indicated below. The course status will change to a middle school-level course. The grade in that course will not affect your student's high school transcript, GPA, or class rank if the change is completed by the deadline.

  • The deadline to withdraw from a high school credit course with a state EOC exam (such as Algebra I) was January 27, 2023. Algebra I can no longer be dropped.
  • The deadline to withdraw from any other high school credit course is April 21, 2023 (i.e. Spanish, IPC, Principles of Hospitality, Principles of Applied Engineering, Principles of Arts Audio/Visual, Robotics, PLTW - Gateway, Health, Touch Data/ Keyboarding, and Lifetime Nutrition & Wellness).

Please reach out to your student's teacher directly with any questions or concerns. Opt-Out forms for yearlong and Spring semester courses can be obtained from your teacher or counselor. Forms must be returned by the deadline to your teacher or the counseling center.
