Bailey Bear Happenings - April 28th Edition

April 28th Edition

STAAR Testing Information - Please READ!

Dear Bailey Parents and Guardians,

First, sending out a huge thank you to our "Bear Country Community" We have completed our first round of testing. Our students were on time, ready to go. This makes a huge difference in their performance. Thank you for all you do to make this possible. Remember round two is coming next week for our 8th graders. Let's do it again next week.

Next, We are continuing our 2023 STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness) administrations testing window. 6th-8th graders are required to take the test. Below is the schedule for our official testing dates.

ADD these dates:

Math 6th-8th & EOC Algebra May 4th / Make Up May 5th

  • Please make sure your student gets plenty of rest the night before each test, and a good breakfast the morning of the test.

  • Please make sure that your student is on time to school with a fully charged Chromebook and charger.

  • Please remind them that they may not have their phone or smart devices(watches, ear buds, etc.) in the classroom during testing

Please try not to schedule doctor’s appointments around these dates so students can be in attendance.

Please remember that on these testing dates students are required to be monitored at all times until they finish the assessment. This being the case, we ask that you remember that campus will be closed to all parents and visitors to ensure proper monitoring of students.

Since we will have students testing in all parts of the building, we will be a secure testing site. Remember that this means we are not accepting any drop offs for our students including and not limited to: lunches, changes of clothes, chromebooks, etc.

Please help us stress to our students that we need them to do their best on each test.

Course Verification Information from the Counseling Department

Thank you,

The Bailey Counseling Department

Education First Exchange Year:

Our students come from thirteen different countries around the world including three Asian countries and countries all over Western Europe. By hosting, families are inviting cultural enrichment into their homes, schools, and communities. Families of all shapes and sizes benefit from the experience. We have 3,000 families all over the nation including single parents, empty nesters, families with young children, LGBTQIA+ households, and everything in between. Not only does it expose the family members to another culture, it can also foster lifelong bonds that reach all over the globe. Host family is responsible for three meals a day, a place to sleep (can share a bedroom w/a sibling of same gender & similar age) and some transportation to activities. Students are 15-18 yrs old, will have their own health insurance and spending money.

Check out this short video of just a few students experience: One Year That Will Change Your Life

Please let me know if you are interested in learning more about hosting or visit our website at efexchangeyear.org. You can also contact me directly for any interest, questions, at giulia.zanini@ef.com or (617) 619-1020.
Lastly, we also offer a referral program. If you know anyone in your community that would be interested and does end up hosting, we offer a $200 referral bonus.

Performance Course visited with Bowie feeder Middle School Athletics earlier this week about an upcoming opportunity for athletic development that will be taking place this summer! This program was developed by Performance Course to offer athletes the opportunity to develop both physically and mentally.

PC takes a goal-oriented approach to develop speed, agility, mobility, functional strength and power. Performance nutrition, character development, mental preparation and goal setting techniques are also included in the curriculum to develop the whole athlete!
