May 15th Edition
Principal's Note
Bailey Parents and Guardians,
We're in the home stretch of the school year. Here are some important reminders as we prepare to finish out the year.
Grading and Late/missing work
Grades are due to be finalized and submitted by the teachers early next week. That means teachers will have deadlines for accepting "late or make-up work" sometime this week. Students must ask each of their teachers what their deadline is for turning in any late or make-up assignments as it may be different for each teacher. Be sure to have your student turn in any late or make-up work ASAP. If a student misses the deadline, their teacher will not have time to grade the work and average it into a final grade for submission to the district. Your student will not get credit for that assignment. Please remember, each teacher carries an average of approximately 150 students on their roster.
If they have missing assignments, please encourage your student to get to work NOW and finish everything they can ASAP... Not "by the end of this week"... NO! Turn it in ASAP. It's up to them to know different teacher deadlines. We are talking about overdue/late work. They've had plenty of time to get their assignments turned in prior to this last week of grading.
No Back Packs 5/24 and 5/25 and Locker Cleanout
We need parent help to deter any prank behavior for the last couple of days of school. Like last year, Bailey Administration will not allow backpacks at school Wednesday and Thursday (May 24th & 25th). Students will be cleaning out their lockers on Tuesday, May 23rd, and taking all personal items home in their backpacks. Tuesday the 23rd will be the last day for backpacks on campus. (Backpacks brought to school on either day, Wed. 5/24 or Thurs. 5/25, will be turned in to the main office, labeled, and held in a locked room until dismissal. All backpacks brought on either day may be subject to a search.)
Chromebooks - Turn-In For Inventory
This year, AISD is requiring that all students at all grade levels, turn in their Chromebooks so they can be inventoried. This applies to every school in the district. Students will need to locate the following items to turn in during their advisory class, beginning, Monday, May 22nd. We will collect Chromebooks during advisory every day during the last week of school.
Please turn in the following:
- Chromebook (please remove any stickers, decorations, etc.)
- Charger
- Hotspot
- Chromebook case (if issued)
Summer devices: We understand how this may affect students during the summer. If your student needs a device for summer use, including Garza Online classes:
-
Parents or guardians can complete an OPT-IN form via their Parent Portal account to request a device.
-
Devices will be available for pick-up on May 26, and May 30 through June 2, from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm.
-
Pickup locations will be Gus Garcia YMLA or at the Austin ISD Central Office.
-
During device pickups, fee schedule forms and accountability acknowledgments will also be provided.
-
Summer devices must be returned to the student’s home campus at the start of the Fall 2023 school year.
-
Also... Please turn in any library books ASAP, so we can collect them all before the last day of school.
8th Grade Completion Ceremony
As you know, there is no graduation ceremony for completing 8th grade, but Bailey holds its own 8th Grade Completion Ceremony to recognize the years of hard work it takes to complete middle school. This year our Completion Ceremony is scheduled for the last day of school, Thursday, May 25th, starting at 2:45PM. It will last through dismissal at 3:50PM. Here are the guidelines we want everyone to follow:
- Parking is allowed in parking lot spaces and on the street only. DO NOT park along the curb of any of the school driveways (they are reserved for parent pick-up and for our buses.) Please do not block anyone and do not block the buses in the bus loop. Facing north, Please do not park on the right side of Lost Oasis Hollow from the stop sign to our main driveway. We need to keep this clear for the parent pick up line. You may have to park far away and the weather may be warm so please plan ahead.
- Seating in the gym is limited so we are asking that families limit guests to four (4) people only. We just don't have room for everyone to attend. Most of the seating will be in the bleachers.
-
Please do not bring Balloon Bouquets or large signs, noisemakers, etc. Let's save that for their high school graduation. Any Balloon arrangements, signs, etc., will not be allowed in the gym and will instead be held in the main office until after the ceremony.
- There will be limited seating available on the floor for the elderly or for guests with limited mobility.

AISD Events/ Information
Education First Exchange Year:
Our students come from thirteen different countries around the world including three Asian countries and countries all over Western Europe. By hosting, families are inviting cultural enrichment into their homes, schools, and communities. Families of all shapes and sizes benefit from the experience. We have 3,000 families all over the nation including single parents, empty nesters, families with young children, LGBTQIA+ households, and everything in between. Not only does it expose the family members to another culture, it can also foster lifelong bonds that reach all over the globe. Host family is responsible for three meals a day, a place to sleep (can share a bedroom w/a sibling of same gender & similar age) and some transportation to activities. Students are 15-18 yrs old, will have their own health insurance and spending money.
Check out this short video of just a few students experience: One Year That Will Change Your Life
Please let me know if you are interested in learning more about hosting or visit our website at efexchangeyear.org. You can also contact me directly for any interest, questions, at giulia.zanini@ef.com or (617) 619-1020.
Lastly, we also offer a referral program. If you know anyone in your community that would be interested and does end up hosting, we offer a $200 referral bonus.
