May 19th Edition
Principal's Note
Bailey Parents and Guardians,
Here are some important reminders as we prepare to finish out the year.
No Back Packs 5/24 and 5/25 and Locker Cleanout
We need parent help to deter any prank behavior for the last couple of days of school. Like last year, Bailey Administration will not allow backpacks at school Wednesday and Thursday (May 24th & 25th). Students will be cleaning out their lockers on Tuesday, May 23rd, and taking all personal items home in their backpacks. Tuesday the 23rd will be the last day for backpacks on campus. (Backpacks brought to school on either day, Wed. 5/24 or Thurs. 5/25, will be turned in to the main office, labeled, and held in a locked room until dismissal. All backpacks brought on either day may be subject to a search.)
Chromebooks - Turn-In For Inventory
This year, AISD is requiring that all students at all grade levels, turn in their Chromebooks so they can be inventoried. This applies to every school in the district. Students will need to locate the following items to turn in during their advisory class, beginning, Monday, May 22nd. We will collect Chromebooks during advisory every day during the last week of school.
Please turn in the following:
- Chromebook (please remove any stickers, decorations, etc.)
- Charger
- Hotspot
- Chromebook case (if issued)
Summer devices: We understand how this may affect students during the summer. If your student needs a device for summer use, including Garza Online classes:
-
Parents or guardians can complete an OPT-IN form via their Parent Portal account to request a device.
-
Devices will be available for pick-up on May 26, and May 30 through June 2, from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm.
-
Pickup locations will be Gus Garcia YMLA or at the Austin ISD Central Office.
-
During device pickups, fee schedule forms and accountability acknowledgments will also be provided.
-
Summer devices must be returned to the student’s home campus at the start of the Fall 2023 school year.
-
Also... Please turn in any library books ASAP, so we can collect them all before the last day of school.
8th Grade Completion Ceremony
As you know, there is no graduation ceremony for completing 8th grade, but Bailey holds its own 8th Grade Completion Ceremony to recognize the years of hard work it takes to complete middle school. This year our Completion Ceremony is scheduled for the last day of school, Thursday, May 25th, starting at 2:45PM. It will last through dismissal at 3:50PM. Here are the guidelines we want everyone to follow:
- Parking is allowed in parking lot spaces and on the street only. DO NOT park along the curb of any of the school driveways (they are reserved for parent pick-up and for our buses.) Please do not block anyone and do not block the buses in the bus loop. Facing north, Please do not park on the right side of Lost Oasis Hollow from the stop sign to our main driveway. We need to keep this clear for the parent pick up line. You may have to park far away and the weather may be warm so please plan ahead.
- Seating in the gym is limited so we are asking that families limit guests to four (4) people only. We just don't have room for everyone to attend. Most of the seating will be in the bleachers.
-
Please do not bring Balloon Bouquets or large signs, noisemakers, etc. Let's save that for their high school graduation. Any Balloon arrangements, signs, etc., will not be allowed in the gym and will instead be held in the main office until after the ceremony.
- There will be limited seating available on the floor for the elderly or for guests with limited mobility.
John Rocha, Principal
Lost and Found Information
Tuesday, May 23rd. Last Chance to claim Lost & Found! Any unclaimed items will be donated on May 24th.
Native Plants and Animals Information
Dear NPA & Environment Parent,
Mrs. Tafoya's students want to create a pumpkin patch and for that to happen seeds need to be planted in June. We are arranging a 2 hour work day on the morning of May 27 to clean out and repair the wicking beds. Any carpentry skills will come in handy so if you've got em please consider coming. After repairing the rotten boards the beds will need to be cleared of weeds and plants and refilled with soil that we will have delivered that Friday. If enough people show up we can also clear out, refill, fertilize and cover the Earthboxes in preparation of summer or fall crops. If we have even more volunteers we can harvest some of the Arizona Cypress, cut off the rootmaker bags, re-wrap for the rootballs for finishing then refill the holes created by the harvest. With even more volunteers we pull the weeds in the greenhouse and clear all the weeds from the crushed granite pad. There is lots to do.
Please call Mike Berryman at 512-914-0060
We appreciate all your help in making our Bailey student's Dreams become a reality!
Thank you for your support and time.
Mr. Mike Berryman and Ms. Romie Tafoya
