Important STAAR Information

Bailey Parents and Guardians,

Tomorrow (Wednesday 4/19) is our first STAAR testing day. The entire campus will be testing mode as all three grade levels will be taking the STAAR Reading test. Students will have the entire school day (until 3:30PM) to complete the test. All students should be in attendance. In order to maintain the most secure testing environment, the campus will be closed to all visitors on any testing day. We will not be accepting any drop-offs for Chromebooks, chargers, lunches, water bottles, etc.  If you have an appointment scheduled for tomorrow the optimal solution would be to reschedule it, if possible. If you can't reschedule, please contact the main office at (512) 414-4990 so they can advise you.

Cell phones OFF!: Please do not call or text your child at all during any testing day. Remind your child to TURN OFF their phone for the day. Any student caught using/looking at their phone, anywhere on campus, will be suspected of academic dishonesty (cheating), will have their phone taken up by the teacher, and will likely have their test scored as a Zero. This is very serious. If you need to reach your child, please call the main office (512)414-4990 and leave a message for your child. We will get it to the classroom and to your child as soon as they are done testing. If it is an emergency, please let us know so we can involve an administrator.

Please review the following suggestions for having your student ready for the STAAR Reading test in the morning...

  • Get a good night's sleep. We recommend 8 hours or more. Shut down the electronics and phones!
  • Charge your Chromebook overnight. A fully charged Chromebook will last the entire day. All testing is online so students must bring their fully-charged Chromebook
  • Eat something for breakfast. Studies show students perform at lower levels when they haven't eaten something in the morning. Breakfast is available in the cafeteria.
  • Arrive before 8:15AM if possible. Being on time is critical on testing days because all students begin testing at the same time, and arriving early allows them to settle in before testing begins.
  • We will be testing in our Alpha-Advisory classrooms (classes divided by alphabetical order). Alpha-Advisory signs will be posted in the hallways to guide students in the morning.
  • Please bring a water bottle and a book to read. Students will remain in their testing room for much of the day, so your child should bring something to read if finished before their classmates.
  • Turn cell phones OFF for the entire day. Cell phones are not needed on any testing day.

Thank you for helping us by having your child ready to go for the start of STAAR testing. Our teachers have prepared them well, now is the time to have them show us what they've learned!!!
