Subject: Student walkout today May 11, 2023

Dear Bailey Middle School Families,

This afternoon, approximately 200 of our students held a peaceful walkout in solidarity with other students throughout the state, calling for action against gun violence. Austin ISD Police also were on-site to ensure safety and students returned to their classes after 40 minutes.. Students who participated in the walkout will not be excused from class. We recognize that emotions are charged in regard to school violence. School counselors will be available to provide students with support. Having positive and open conversations with our children about school violence is key to helping them deal with uncertainty. We will continue collaborating with our students and staff to create the safest and most positive learning environments possible.
