8th Grade PSAT Information for October 11th

PSAT 8/9: Your Child’s Head Start Starts Here

The SAT is an entrance exam used by many colleges and universities to make admission decisions. The Preliminary SAT is a practice version of the SAT. As part of our college and career readiness efforts at Bailey Middle School, we strive to set all students up for success. That’s why we’re offering the PSAT 8/9—the first test in the SAT® Suite of Assessments—to our 8th grade students. Results from this assessment help us establish a baseline for each student as they start their high school journey. The results help focus your child’s growth. Taking the PSAT 8/9 can also help your child to:

  • Know where they are and where they want to go.
    • A personalized online score report will include detailed information about your child’s strengths and areas for growth.
  • Find out what AP® courses they’re ready to take.
    • AP or Advanced Placement courses are high school courses that prepare students to take an AP exam. Your AP exam scores can earn college credit before you set foot on a college campus, and perhaps, let you skip introductory college courses.

This fall, the PSAT 8/9 will be administered in a new digital format that will provide an overall easier testing experience for students. Watch this video to see what students can expect with the digital PSAT 8/9.

Your child will take the PSAT 8/9 on October 11, using their own school-issued device and scores will be released in mid-November. Students will be in test rooms from 8:20 - 11:36 a.m. so please plan accordingly. All students are already signed up to participate! If you would like to opt your child out of the test, you can complete this opt out form. If you or your child have questions about the PSAT 8/9, please reach out to me or your child’s counselor—we can help!
